Split and multi-split systems that heat as well as cool
People still treat air conditioning as a summer gadget. The systems we fit are heat pumps. They cool a bedroom in August and heat it through winter, usually for less than leaving an electric radiator on.
A single split is one indoor unit and one outdoor unit. That's the right job for a bedroom, a home office, or a room that overheats because of glass. Multi-split uses one outdoor unit to feed several indoors, so you're not putting a condenser on every wall. Whole-house work is that idea taken room by room, with each indoor unit sized to its own space.
We'll tell you which of those the building actually wants. A conservatory and a north-facing bedroom don't take the same kit.
How we size and install domestic air conditioning
A site visit comes first. We look at glazing, insulation, ceiling height and how you use the room. A home office with kit running all day isn't the same as a spare bedroom. We'd rather specify a smaller unit that holds temperature than sell you cooling you never use.
You get a written spec before anything comes off the van: indoor and outdoor positions, pipe runs, electrics, and what the manufacturer warranty needs from us. On the day we protect floors, keep dust down, and route pipework as discreetly as the building allows. Most single-room jobs are done in a day.
The outdoor unit has to sit somewhere it can work and you can live with. It needs airflow around it to reject heat, a route for the pipework, and a position that neighbours and planning will accept. We work that out on the survey.

- Yes. Modern split systems are heat pumps. They reverse the cycle in colder months and can heat a room more cheaply than a plug-in radiator. We specify them for winter as well as summer.
- Not legally, if it involves refrigerant. Anyone handling F-gas in the UK needs the right certification. We're F-Gas certified. If you've already bought a unit online, ask us to look at it. Don't leave a leaking or undersized install running.
- A heat-loss and heat-gain calculation for the room. Conservatories, south-facing glazing and loft rooms all behave differently, so we size it from the survey rather than the floor area alone.
- There's some drilling and pipework. We protect floors, keep dust down, and route pipework as discreetly as the building allows. Most single-room jobs are done in a day.
- It depends on the room, the pipe run and the kit. A single wall-mounted split is a different job to a multi-split through a villa. The online estimate is a steer; a firm figure comes after we've seen the building.
